It's Pride Month!

Pride month, established in honor of the Stonewall Rebellion of June 28, 1969, marks the beginning of the contemporary LGBTQ+ movement. It serves as a tribute to the historical contributions and influence of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals on a global scale. The month-long observance aims to acknowledge their significant impact at both local and international levels.

Speaking of solutions, let’s talk mental health

In a world aimed at inclusivity, youth in the LGBTQ community needs are still being neglected and face a disheartening reality. The U.S. Mental health care delivery system still lacks and fails to keep up with the growing and unique needs of LGBTQ individuals. Interesting timing with new screening recommendations for depression and suicide risk released by the USPSTF just last week. As APPs (PAs, NPs), we have untapped potential to reduce health disparities. Let’s do better from the classroom to clinical care!

The AMA’s ongoing attempts to limit practice laws for APRNs

Last week, while the AMA continues to pursue joint regulation of nurse practitioners (NPs) and other advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), the AANP maintains a steadfast effort to push back. The AANP maintains that they “will continue to fight for patients. AANP calls on the AMA to stop the rhetoric and resolutions that undermine patient choice, access and truly coordinated care.” We can’t stress the importance of joining your state organization enough!

💡Inspiration for Aspirations

"As advanced care clinicians, we are trying to navigate all of the racial and sex disparities found in research, and to find a way for our professions to join hands to promote increased data collection in addressing disparities in LGBT care. We can also come together to find a way to promote gender and sex equality and to reduce sex/gender/race disparities in how we treat our patients. We need more curricular content about LBGT health; in the end, it is our challenge to find a way to do this."
